Today we embarked on an unforgettable journey exploring the captivating island of Crete, immersing ourselves in its rich history, picturesque landscapes, and vibrant culture.
Our day began with a visit to the historic Monastery of Arkadi, a cultural gem nestled amidst the stunning Cretan countryside. Steeped in history, the monastery’s ancient walls whispered tales of resilience and courage, offering a glimpse into Crete’s storied past.
Next, we ventured to the seaside town of Rethymnon, a town steeped in Old World charm. The Fortezzza, a 16th century Venetian fortress sits about the town offering panoramic views. As you wander the cobblestone streets be sure to sample the local delicacies washed down with a glass of raki, the islands signature spirit. After soaking in the sights and sounds of local life, we indulged in a delectable Greek lunch sampling many local specialities at Petite Fleur.
Fueled by delicious food and newfound energy, we made our way to Old Town Chania. This harbor town is labyrinth of narrow alleyways and Venetian architecture. We looked at the quaint boutiques and artisan stalls in search for the perfect souvenirs to commemorate our time in Crete. You can climb to the top of the Venetian Lighthouse for panoramic views of the city but we were running short on time.
As the sun began to set, we bid farewell to the island of Crete. The evening promised a delightful array of entertainment, starting with an excellent dinner onboard, where we savored mouthwatering dishes inspired by the Mediterranean.
After dinner we watched The Trawlerman, a folk band do a great set and rounded off the evening with a lively round of rock trivia, tapping our feet to the beat of iconic tunes and testing our knowledge of rock ‘n’ roll history.
