Our voyage brought us to the picturesque Messina, Sicily- a destination close to my heart and undoubtedly one of my favorite stops on this journey. Join us as we recount the highlights of a day filled with cinematic wonders, culinary delights, and mesmerizing sights.
Sicily holds a special place in my heart and I dream of returning one day to explore more of the island. Today, we embarked on a Godfather movie tour. Though we had taken this tour 6 years earlier, the allure of sharing this experience with my parents was irresistible.
Nestled atop the hillside we relished in the breathtaking beauty of Savoca and Forza D’Argo, two charming towns immortalized in the iconic Godfather films. Our tour led us to iconic locations such as Bar Vitelli, the quaint church, and other shooting spots, each steep in history and cinematic nostalgia.
We were beyond excited to see that the little pizza place, Antichi Muri, in Forza D’Argo was still open. While typically indifferent to cannoli, the ones here are the best I’ve ever had, another reason I was willing to do the same tour a second time! After delicious pizza and cannoli we caught an awe-inspiring view of Mt. Etna with its snow capped peaks towering in the distance.
Returning to Messina, we fit in a little souvenir shopping before witnessing the historic bell tower of Messina come to life. If you are lucky enough to be in Messina at 12:00 the tower does a full show lasting 12 minutes but it’s only once a day.
Back on the ship, our evening continued with our nightly trivia, this time focusing on pubs followed by the very funny comedian Phil Tag who had us in stitches.
